At the GFC we receive at least 30 Facebook messenger messages a month. In most cases, about 95% of the queries are about where to take one’s script to get it made into a film. The Writer’s Guild of South Africa (WGSA) is rolling out a Basic Screenwriting Course in official South African languages – yes, all our 11 languages
Open to all South Africans, the course developed by the WGSA, supported by the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC), and the National Arts Council (NAC), has been translated into all the official languages of South Africa.
The first roll-out of this course will take place between February and March 2021. The training is available as contact and online learning. The contact learning classes will take place in locations outside of major centres mostly, like Alice (Eastern Cape), Tongaat (KZN), Rosendal (Free State), and Potchefstroom (North West) where COVID-19 protocols will be upheld.
The training is FREE for the following WGSA members:
- Candidate (emerging writers who have not had any of their scripts produced) and
- Student (emerging writers registered at an educational institution).
