As part of the South African Guild of Actor’s (SAGA) 15th anniversary celebrations, the Gauteng Film Commission (GFC) participated in a landmark conference that brought together key voices from the local and international creative industries. The two-day event provided a platform for open dialogue around the regulation and protection ofcreative sector professionals under South African labour laws.
The conference featured union leaders and industry experts from the United States and Canada, including representatives prominent organizations such as Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artist (SAG-AFTRA) and Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artist (ACTRA). These international guests shared insights into their repective contries’ legal framework, collective bargaining practices, and startegies for ensuring fair tratment of workers in the creative economy.
GFC was key in the discussions around policy alignment between government, the creative industry, and labour representatives in South Africa.
The event concluded with a call to action for increased collaboration among unions, government bodies, and private sector players to build a more equitable and regulated creative economy in South Africa.
GFC congratulates SAGa on its 15-year milestone and looks forward to continued engagement as the sector works towards a more formalised and inclusive regulatory environment.





SAGA visits historical monuments
SAGA also concluded the event by hosting a tour visiting several monumental locations to South African history including Constitution Hill, the Apartheid Museum, Nelson Mandela House, and Hector Pietersen Memorial for Canadian and U.S. delegates.
