In June 2010, South Africa (SA) will host the FIFA World Cup ? a mega sporting event that is comparable only to the Olympic Games. In preparation for this global spectacular, the Gauteng Film Commission (GFC) has compiled a Catalogue of 2010 and soccer-themed titles, recently completed or currently in production. According to the GFC, the catalogue will be launched at MIPCOM 2009 ? a leading TV content market taking place in France this month (October 2009).

IMPAC, the Initiative for Motion Pictures within the African Continent, is a project initiated by Pluto Panoussis from The Open Window School of Visual Communication. The goal of the festival is to promote and provide a platform for innovative short films of an exploratory nature. The festival, which was launched earlier in the year in Pretoria, showcases innovative audio-visual productions that explore the moving image. These short films range in expression from comic to conceptual, and in treatment, from film to animation to new media.

Design Indaba Expo 2010: Film, call for entries
|
|
All South African filmmakers, students and hobbyists are invited to submit their short films, music videos and animations for screening at the 2010 Design Indaba Expo.
The curated film festival is open for viewing by all Design Indaba Expo visitors, 26 – 28 February 2010, and is screened between the fashion shows at the fashion arena.
Submissions must be less than 12 minutes in length and need to be in mini dv or high resolution QuickTime (uncompressed or pal). There is no fee for participation.

Aluta Film Festival official call for entries
|
|
The organisers of the Aluta Film Festival, South Africa?s premier township cinema event, are calling for entries from South African and International filmmakers for 2010, the 7th edition of the festival. The 2010 film festival edition will be hosted in Kimberley, 22 ? 28 February 2010.
Submissions MUST be from filmmakers who have produced films that embrace BLACK experiences worldwide and/or experiences of marginalised communities from across the globe. Submissions MUST be from filmmakers from all over the world with special emphasis on world cinema (films that explore history, social issues and highlight marginalisaed communities within the developing world).
Call for entry deadline: Monday 30 November 2009
Aluta Film Festival accepts features, documentaries and short films in the genres/sub-genres of drama, action, thriller, comedy, animation and factual. Filmmakers must guarantee, should their film/video be selected, that permission from the rights holder is secured for a minimum of four screenings at the Aluta Film Festival 2010.
Filmmakers are requested to submit DVD PAL screeners of their films and a brief filmmaker biography for viewing by our panel, upon viewing ? all selected filmmakers will be forwarded the official application details as well as all festival regulations. Please note that no screeners will be returned.
