Africa Rising International Film Festival: Another event that is becoming a favourite for film lovers. In its 3rd year, this past weekend ARIFF screened at Rosebank, Cinema Nouveau and at The Bioscope in 44 Stanley showcasing content from the continent. GFC who has been a partner since the festival’s establishment participated in pre-recorded round tables – check the recordings on ARIFF social media platforms (IGTV and Facebook)
Makhelwane Festival: The Makhelwane Festival is an annual event that takes place in an open street in the heart of Soweto. The idea behind the concept is to create products that will allow aspiring entrepreneurs, creatives, and musicians to showcase their craft and skills. The platform was also developed to reposition our townships, showcasing the space in a positive light and dispel the myths associated with Soweto. The event is scheduled to take place from 18 – 20 December 2020.
Local Movie Friday: Kasmedia will host school holiday program. The initiative focuses on showcasing talent and screening of community produced films. Kasmedia hosts children and youth clubs throughout the year, to develop and promote community-based programs that seek to stimulate the community of Lawley. The film workshops are intended for people / young people who aspire to filmmaking as a career. Dates are 16-20th December.
The Writers Guild of South Africa (WGSA) is calling for 2020 MUSE Awards entries. Launched in 2013, the WGSA Muse Awards are the only awards in South Africa to honour performance writers. The awards celebrate and promote local content production by acknowledging the creativity and craft excellence of South Africa and African writers.
The 2020 Muse Awards categories cover: Film, Television, Documentaries, Stage, Radio, Animation and Mobile/Web Series.
