Bioscope is yet again back in eKasi! The Gauteng Film Commission (GFC) launched the second season of ‘Gauteng Bioscope’ on the 1st of February 2008 with more than 30 confirmed screenings scheduled across various townships of Gauteng. The free screenings of a selection of contemporary African cinema will take place during February and March in 8 townships with the first four screenings successfully completed in Kliptown, Dobsonville, Swaneville and Muldersdrift.

In a merger sure to be welcomed by the industry, AT2 and Digi_Cast have joined forces to strengthen their product offering to the South African film and fashion Industry.

Realtime Resources has announced that their site www.realtimeresources.co.za is now operational and available to subscribers. The website allows for anyone in the industry to subscribe free of charge and to showcase their talents, CV and availability through a real time diary. Producers are able to also subscribe and to use the resource for their crewing needs and more.

Andrew Worsdale takes a peek at the production of “Happy Day” – an innovative pilot for a children’s sitcom series that was developed and created in Ekangala Township and is being touted as South Africa’s unique home-grown “High School Musical”.

Newtown was recently abuzz with the shooting of a new music video for renowned flutist Wouter Kellerman. The location of the shoot was the extremely photogenic area around Newtown’s Market Theatre, with all its photographic possibilities, ending up inside the spacious warehouse of the Afrika Cultural Center of Benjy Francis.

It was the 1964 Friz Freleng cartoon Senorella and the Glass Huarach that captivated the young Isabelle Rorke whilst growing up in rural Kwa-Zulu Natal.  The strains of Speedy Gonzalez howling, “Ariba, Ariba, eh-hah!!!” haven’t died inside her soul and at age 33 Rorke is still in love with animation and making major strides in the local industry.

A 5-day performance video workshop presented by German artists Beate Geissler and Oliver Sann will be hosted at The Bag Factory.
