Word from the Chief Executive
‘Solid Gold’ is the theme of our latest advertising campaign and in the August edition of In Focus we look at who’s going for gold in the Gaullywood world of film.

In partnership with the Gauteng Department of Economic Development, the Gauteng Film Council is pleased to invite nominations for the annual Passing the Torch awards for Women in Film. The award seeks to honour women who have contributed to the growth and development of film in Gauteng.

With excitement we note that the International Broadcast Centre for the 2010 Football World Cup will be based in Johannesburg. With an estimated 5,000 journalists expected to attend the World Cup, Gauteng will take centre-stage at a global event that will reach in excess of 30-billion viewers.

‘Solid Gold’ is also evidenced by the launch of yet another international news channel based in Gauteng. SABC News International – a dedicated international news channel with a strong Pan-African focus – went live in July with regular news bulletins, current affairs, investigative programmes and business news from around the globe.

On the award and festival front, we look forward to the Architect Africa Film Festival, which will explore the interaction between film, urbanisation and the built environment. The festival will feature some fine international cinema and provides an opportune platform for reflecting on the role film plays in showing Gauteng as a unique African metropolis and global city.Visit our partners, shoes – leaders in fashionable footwear!

In our production update we look at two recent campaigns shot on the streets of Gauteng for international clients, while our monthly feature on locations goes decidedly wild with our spotlight on Nash’s Farm and Glen Afric – two well-loved Gauteng locations.
