The Joburg Film Festival returns from 9-14 March 2027, bringing audiences, filmmakers, industry professionals and partners together once again in celebration of African and international cinema

As Africa Month reminds us, storytelling has long been woven into the fabric of the continent – preserving histories, carrying memory and passing knowledge across generations. Film continues that tradition, giving African stories new platforms and audiences across the world.

This is reflected in the recent announcement that South Africa has been named the Country of Focus for the Berlinale European Film Market (EFM) 2027 – a significant moment for the local industry and a welcome spotlight on the country’s creative talent, storytelling and growing international presence.

The countdown to JFF 2027 begins now, with more to be revealed in the months ahead, including next year’s festival theme.

See you in Johannesburg, 9-14 March 2027.
