JohannesburgThe Gauteng Film Commission (GFC) is proud to announce its participation in FAME Week Africa 2025, taking place from 1 to 6 September 2025 in Cape Town. As Africa’s creative economy continues to grow, GFC’s presence at this premier industry event reaffirms its commitment to positioning Gauteng as a leading force on both the continental and global creative stage.

FAME Week Africa is one of the continent’s most influential platforms, celebrating excellence across a wide range of creative industries, including film, television, animation, music, fashion, and more. GFC’s involvement aligns with its strategic objectives to promote inclusive growth, foster innovation, and create sustainable opportunities within Gauteng’s dynamic screen sector.

“Gauteng’s creative energy is unmatched, and FAME Week Africa provides the ideal platform to showcase our talent, attract investment, and spark cross-border collaboration,” said GFC CEO, Ms. Keitumetse Lebaka. “This event is a gateway for our filmmakers and creatives to connect with global networks, embrace emerging technologies, and position Gauteng as a film-friendly, globally competitive destination,” she added.

FAME Week Africa is more than just an industry gathering, it is a vibrant platform for meaningful engagement, knowledge exchange, and expanded market access. For the GFC, it represents a space where powerful stories meet opportunity, where talent connects with investors, and where emerging creatives gain critical exposure. Participation in this event is central to advancing the Commission’s mission of nurturing a thriving, inclusive, and globally competitive screen industry in Gauteng.

As part of its programme, GFC will showcase a diverse range of Gauteng-based productions and highlight the province’s emerging creative voices. The Commission will also participate in high-level networking forums, contribute to thought leadership sessions, and support a series of workshops and masterclasses aimed at building industry capacity and encouraging innovation.

GFC will feature in several panel discussions focused on key issues shaping the future of the film and television landscape. These include sessions on unlocking financing for African productions, leveraging blockchain for funding and content ownership, and advancing virtual reality and immersive storytelling in African cinema. Through these engagements, GFC continues to foster forward-thinking dialogue and contribute meaningfully to the evolution of Africa’s creative industries.

Capping off the week’s activities, GFC will support the prestigious FAME Shorts Film Festival Awards Ceremony which is dedicated to recognising and honouring the next generation of African storytellers who are redefining narrative and form.

The Gauteng Film Commission invites all industry stakeholders, partners, and the broader public to follow its journey at FAME Week Africa 2025 and join in celebrating Gauteng’s creative excellence on a continental stage.
