From 18-21 July, the Durban FilmMart (DFM) hosted its 16th edition in Durban under the theme “Bridges Not Borders: Stories that Unite.” The event brought together filmmakers, producers, and industry stakeholders from across Africa for four days of pitching, networking, and industry insights.
The Gauteng Film Commission (GFC) participated as a strategic partner, reinforcing its commitment to strengthening industry connections and supporting emerging talent. GFC was represented by a delegation of five (5) officials and provided support to six (6) Gauteng-based filmmakers to attend the market.
Notably, Ms. Nobulali Kama of Coffee Stain Production- one of the filmmakers supported by the GFC- won two (2) prestigious awards at the Simon Mabhunu Sabela Awards: Best Short Film and Best Micro Budget Film for her acclaimed project, Entabeni.
The DFM market showcased over 30 projects from 15 countries, alongside a dynamic programme of masterclasses, panels, and exhibitions focused on African co-production and film financing. As the continent’s leading film industry platform, DFM continues to drive collaboration and investment in African cinema.
