For many creatives, success does not always translate into financial security. Income in the industry is often unpredictable- booming one day and gone the next- leaving too many talented artists vulnerable to financial hardship. To address this challenge, the Gauteng Film Commission (GFC), in partnership with ABSA and the Small Enterprise Development and Finance Agency (SEDFA), hosted a Financial Planning Masterclass for the audio-visual industry.
The masterclass was held at the ABSA Building in Sandton on Thursday, 25 September 2025, and it formed part of the GFC’s Skills Development Programme. The venue was a deliberate choice, highlighting ABSA’s role as one of South Africa’s leading financial institutions and its commitment to empowering the creative economy.
The programme featured expert-led sessions on personal and business finance, home and vehicle financing, as well as grant and loan opportunities from ABSA, SEDFA and the GFC. The sessions further explored flexible financial packages tailored to meet creatives’ specific needs.
As custodian of Gauteng’s film and television industry, the GFC continues to collaborate with expert partners to ensure that creatives are equipped not only with platforms to showcase their art but also with the financial knowledge to secure their futures.
