On 16 June, the GFC joined forces with the Gauteng Government to host an inspiring Youth Day celebration at the historic Morris Isaacson High School in Soweto. The event formed part of the Provincial Government’s Youth Month Expo 2025, and it created a valuable platform for the GFC to exhibit its services and engage directly with young people. Through interactive sessions, the GFC educated attendees about the world of filmmaking and introduced the younger generation to the business side of the industry with an aim to inspire and empower future creatives in Gauteng.

As part of the programme, the GFC presented a diverse lineup of short films, showcasing the incredible talent of our local youth. From “A Grave Confession” to our own internally produced documentary, “Road to Greatness.” The filmmakers behind the remarkable films also engage in a QA session where they spoke about their films with the youth and shared some words of encouragement to the future of filmmaking.

In her truest fashion, acting ISD Manager, Ms Nthabeleng Phora led the charge with passion and precision, working tirelessly to deliver an unforgettable experience for dozens of children attending their very first film screening, complete with popcorn, drinks, and the magi that makes cinema so special

The GFC thanks everyone who helped deliver a splendid event, true to the spirit of June 16, a day of youth courage and resilience. The Commission remains committed to building a creative future for all.
