Thabang Molibeli The Gauteng Film Commission (GFC) will host a four day audio- visual educational campaign from the 17th to the 20th March 2018 in the Sedibeng district close to the Vaal River, in honour of this year’s Human Rights Day.
GFC will partner with five Sedibeng-based emerging film makers who were established last year through the GFC’s Public Awareness campaign in the Gauteng townships. The project will offer emerging filmmakers and learners the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of filmmaking and to receive guidance in getting started in the film and TV industry.
The highlight of the Sedibeng campaign will be a television documentary made by Thabang Molibeli about the Sharpeville Massacre, called “Echoes Of my Past”. It is a personal history of the Sharpeville massacre, and will be will be screened over three days at five venues in Sedibeng. The documentary has also been selected for screening at a number of film festivals, local and international, including the Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles and the Encounters Film festival in South Africa.
There will be Q & A session with the film maker after the screening of the film, as well as a discussion about the events of March 21st 1960, by the Liberation Route Council and the Sharpeville Massacre survivors.
