January provides a good time to reflect on the year past and engage in some crystal ball gazing into what the year ahead may hold for the industry and the GFC. As we report in this special edition newsletter, consensus seems to be that 2011 was not only challenging but also witnessed some major changes in our industry. By all accounts, 2012 is set to be another challenging year, although there are a few cautious optimists out there.
From a GFC perspective, we will continue to pursue strategies and programmes that will deliver on our mandate of developing and promoting the audio-visual industries in Gauteng. We remain committed to growing Gauteng as an innovative world-class hub for the film and television industry.
Among others, we will be working closely with the Gauteng Department of Economic Development – under the leadership of MEC Ms.QedaniMahlangu – on implementing strategic projects. We are particularly excited about furthering the vision of developing a film and media city in the province. Similarly, our commitment to industry transformation remains firm, as will be our endeavours to develop local content and local audiences.
As our locations feature shows, Gauteng continues to reinvent itself each year, with 2012 poised to offer international and local filmmakers a plethora of new perfect locations.
Lastly, I look forward to working closely with our Board to ensure that we continue to maintain effective business and financial processes.
